19-year-old pilot on a mission to the world record stop in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – A militia group that showed up with guns in hand to the Juan de Oñate protest in Albuquerque last year is suing the city. They claim that they were targeted by law enforcement that night. The New Mexico Civil Guard claims they didn’t do anything wrong that night and believe the city targeted them anyway.

About eight members of the heavily armed New Mexico Civil Guard militia appeared last summer to protest the Juan de Oñate statue near Old City. Now several of them are suing the city. According to a federal lawsuit, the guard says city officials attacked them for no reason. They claim the city knew the Civil Guard would be there that night and positioned officers near the protest waiting for a Civil Guard member to “commit a crime and then plan to arrest them” .
