2 dead, 10 injured in traffic accident in Cebu

TOLEDO CITY, Cebu – Two people were killed and ten others injured after a truck lost the brakes and fell on its side here early Saturday morning.

The fatalities were identified as Maria Janila Bantoy, 52, and Antonieta Villarmia, 53.

The injured were identified as Salome Olasiman, 51; Elmer Salondagit, 27; Generose Pinol, 8; Engracio Lato, 50; Lita Pinol, 51; Gloria Abalde, 56; Romeo Loyola, 45; Michael Pardillo, 20; Alona Albon, 16; and the driver of the truck, Roswel Sumbilon, 49.

The injured passengers were taken to hospital for treatment.

PO3 Carlos Barluado from Toledo Police Station said the vehicle lost the brakes and fell on its right side.

The truck was carrying vegetables from the Carbon Public Market for delivery to Toledo and Balamban, Cebu.

The truck driver was arrested at the Toledo Police Station.
