What’s new for the Hyundai Santa Fe 2022?

The plug-in hybrid is now available, and a new XRT fairing complements the SE, SEL, Limited and Calligraphy range of crossovers.

Last year’s makeover to the nose and tail of the Santa Fe brought in some energetic styling cues, perhaps a little too forcefully. Its exterior bears lots of cut lines and moldings, but this year’s new XRT edition tints a bit of the clutter with dark moldings and wheels. The interior seems more appealing to us: it has a self-assured design, with pod-like ventilation openings, a low belt line and large infotainment screens of up to 10.3 inches that go with quilted leather and high-quality headliners.

The Santa Fe base gets by with a 191 hp inline 4 pedestrian; a 277-hp turbo-4 engages at a significantly faster pace, but driving around town leaves its dual-clutch transmission confused at times. We like the 226bhp hybrid best in terms of smoothness and efficiency, but we’ll make our judgment until we drive the upcoming plug-in hybrid and test its 31-mile range. All Santa Fes put driving quality before steering precision – and rightly so for a family vehicle – and deliver this balance better with the smaller wheels and tires offered across the range.

With space for four 6-foot passengers and a smaller fifth in the middle back seat, the Santa Fe scores points in terms of interior comfort. Its well-padded front seats can be covered with nappa leather, electrically adjusted, heated and cooled; in the back it is comfortable for people or folded down slightly to increase the storage space to 72.1 cubic feet behind the front seats. The related Kia Sorento still has a third row seat, but the Santa Fe doesn’t.

Every Santa Fe is equipped with automatic emergency braking, blind spot monitoring, adaptive cruise control and automatic high beam. A head-up display can be installed as well as a surround view camera system. The crash test results are also at the top of the mid-range crossover class.

How much will the Hyundai Santa Fe 2022 cost?

The $ 28,425 Santa Fe SE comes with fabric upholstery, 18-inch wheels, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, plus an 8.0-inch touchscreen and a 5-year warranty for 60,000 miles. Spend about $ 30,000 on an SEL with an electrically-adjustable driver’s seat, wireless smartphone charging, and remote start – or for about $ 39,000, convert it to a hybrid with a digital instrument cluster, leather upholstery, and a panoramic roof.

Where will the Hyundai Santa Fe 2021 be manufactured?

Hybrids come from South Korea; other Santa Fes are from Alabama.
