Outside of the new glass, organizers also highlighted the artwork they received from hundreds of New Mexico artists. This was part of an art contest where folks were asked to give their depiction of Old Man Gloom in the 1990s. Sandoval said they received more than 40 pieces from adults and 300 from children.”In fact, we had so much art that we had to actually go through and pick the kids art and as you’ll see Zozobra is so cute in crayon,” Sandoval said. “It was really difficult for us to pick those kids’ art.”After people checked out the art on the wall, they could pick up a ballot and vote for their favorites. There will be four winners featured on T-shirts and posters, including the adult poster, adult T-shirt, kid’s poster, and kid’s T-shirt.Sandoval said it’s nice to get the community together to encourage artists of all ages.”Zozobra has such a huge presence,” Sandoval said. “It’s such an amazing New Mexico icon that we really want to make sure that we give all the talented artists an opportunity to really shine.”The votes for the art contest are expected to be tallied by Friday. You can also order a ZozoRita at any participating bar and restaurant in Santa Fe. The list currently includes: Del Charro, Maria’s, Tomasita’s, Atrisco, and the Santa Fe Bar and Grill. People can order the glass on the official website starting in June.

It’s never too early to talk about Zozobra and organizers are getting ready for the 98th burning. At an event on Thursday, organizers revealed the official 2022 ZozoRita glass and the art that could be featured on T-shirts and posters.

The celebration for Zozobra has already started with a signature margarita that highlights flavors from the southwest.

“One-hundred percent agave tequila Espolòn blanco, organic lime juice, agave nectar and TAJÍN rim around the glass just to give it a little spice,” said Michael Trujillo with Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits.

Mixologists from Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits created the recipe and the drink is served in the 2022 Zozorita glass.
