In the market for a new SUV? These are the safest midsize SUVs for 2022, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). There is one midsize sport utility vehicle that you could probably skip over, as there are better options in the same price range.

When iSeeCars ranked some of the safest midsize SUVs, the 2022 Toyota Highlander came in first. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gave the 2022 Highlander a five-star safety rating. The Toyota SUV received five-star ratings on important crash tests like the frontal and side crash ratings. Automatic emergency braking and automatic high beams are some of the standard safety technology. Plus, the IIHS gave this SUV the Top Safety Pick Plus award. Toyota’s Highlander SUV has a 16.7% rollover risk.

The NHTSA confirmed the Hyundai Santa Fe was one of the safest midsize SUVs for 2022 with its five-star rating. Hyundai’s Santa Fe also only has a 15.1% rollover rating, the lowest on the list so far. With its Top Safety Pick Plus pick from the IIHS, the Hyundai SUV has all the safety buyers need.
