Albuquerque Public Schools is planning new changes with the latest funding package

Further improvements are on the way for Albuquerque Public Schools (APS). As in other areas, the school district is working to repair and renovate several facilities. “The average school in Albuquerque is over 52 years old,” said John Dufay, executive director at APS. School officials added that certain classrooms also lack advanced technology. “The problem is that they are not conducive to the new educational classrooms that we know today,” said Dufay. However, with the recent passage of a general bond and mill levy, upgrades are planned. Almost 70% of Albuquerque residents voted for both Improvement Bonds on November 2nd. “Hopefully Albuquerque residents and taxpayers will feel that we are doing the right thing,” said Dufay. $ 630 million will be used for facilities across the school system, and preparations are under way. Renovation work on El Dorado High School and Arroyo Del Oso Elementary School is due to resume. HVAC systems in other schools are also being replaced, such as the Chamiza Elementary School where the units have rusted. Dufay said the units were installed in the 1980s. A big difference, less than 15 minutes away, at Cibola High School. Less than a year ago, the facility received a new roof and HVAC systems. The project cost an estimated $ 10 million. Even so, school officials are ready to do more for the Albuquerque community. “We made a lot of promises and we will keep our promises to all of these schools,” said Dufay.
