Ledes from the Land of Enchantment

About 200 Afghan refugees come to Albuquerque

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – It’s the last weekend of the Balloon Fiesta and we’ve had flawless weather so far. But things change with the next storm that hits us. High winds from the upper level are already in the state and this will likely affect the balloons once they are in the air. Therefore, unfortunately, it will be very difficult to start all events this weekend. The wind will be the main story in this storm as gusts hit 35-50 miles per hour behind falling temperatures. Before that happens on Sunday, the temperatures on Saturday will still be very mild, with highs of 80 degrees in Albuquerque and until the mid-90s for Roswell!

A cold front will pull through the state early Sunday, displacing some rain and high mountain snow through the region over the northern mountains. A couple of inches of snow is probably back above 10,000 ft. But this storm doesn’t have much moisture for us as we are too far south. Even so, the cold front will drop temperatures across the state by a solid 10-20 degrees. There is a short break on Monday before an even stronger storm approaches on Tuesday.
