Aggie women golfers extend lead during second day at WAC championships

KERRVILLE, TX- Leading after the first 18 holes at the WAC Women’s Golf Championships, the NM State women’s golf team looked to expand upon its lead in the second day of competition. The Aggies edged further from Sam Houston and the remainder of the field, leading by six strokes after two rounds.

After two rounds, Amelia McKee and Alison Gastelum both remain in contention for the individual championship. The last Aggie to claim an individual title was Dominique Galloway, who shot a 214 (+1) in 2019 to earn the honors. After sharing the lead after round one, McKee and Gastelum both remain inside the top three competitors. McKee, a senior from Spring, Texas, sits just one shot back of the leader.

  • Amelia McKee and Alison Gastelum once again led the Aggies on the second day of the WAC Women’s Golf Championships. Finishing the second round in second and third place, respectively, the duo helped keep the Aggies atop the leaderboard.
  • McKee birdied four times in the second round the lead the Aggies in that category. Finishing with an even 72 on Tuesday, McKee sits at one under over the first 36 holes.
  • Meiji Tungprapunvong and Arantza Armas Stenner both finished just one-over through the front nine on Tuesday. Armas finished the day in 16th place while Tungprapunvong remains tied with teammate Valentina Origel for 20th.
  • Armas was the big mover of the day for NM State, moving 19 spots up the leaderboard.
  • All five Aggies sit inside the top 20 competitors in the field after two rounds.
  • The Aggies look to clinch their seventh WAC Women’s Golf Championship in eight years on Wednesday afternoon.
