Aggies Boost Post Play with Addition of Nigerian Transfer

LAS CRUCES, NM – Two of the best qualities to have in a player are length and athleticism. That’s exactly what the Aggies are getting in signee Sabou Gueye.

Announced by Head Coach Jody Adams-Birch on Friday, the Northwest Florida State College transfer will suit up for the Aggies in 2022-23.

Sabou Gueye | G | Sun | 5-9 | Thies, Senegal/Northwest Florida State College

· Hailing from Senegal, the skilled guard most recently played in The Sunshine State where shared a campus with new Aggie men’s basketball head coach Greg Heiar. The lanky guard comes to Las Cruces with three years of eligibility remaining.
· In her second season with the Raiders, she played in all 30 games and made four starts while helping lead Northwest Florida to an impressive 27-3 overall record.
Despite averaging just over 11 minutes of playing time per game to rank eighth on the team, Gueye grabbed 4.7 rebounds per game to rank second on her squad. She also averaged 6.3 points per game while at Northwest Florida.
· During the 2021-22 campaign, she recorded a career-best 16 points in a win over Bishop State CC and reached double-figures in points on six different occasions.
· She also nabbed a career-high 15 boards in a narrow win over South Plains College and collected five or more rebounds 14 times last season.
· In her debut season with the Raiders, Gueye appeared in 21 games and posted a season-high 13 points against Santa Fe on Jan. 23.
· Gueye will be the second member of next year’s Aggie squad that is a product of Thies, Senegal, as Aggie guard Fama Thiam is also from the city in Eastern Senegal. She will also become the fourth Senegal-born player to be featured on the NM State roster since 2018-19 – joining Thiam, Bigue Sarr and Aissatou Fall.
