A long-standing tradition unfolds again when ALA Promotions organized a boxing event on the occasion of this year’s Sinulog celebration. Twelve pairs of young aspiring boxers from different areas in Cebu showcased their fist skills in front of a sizeable crowd that turned up in the parking lot of Gaisano Country Mall. An impending heavy rain did not stop the aspiring open boxing fighters from doing anything to win as the day was associated with irregular weather conditions.
John Michael Casinto from Cabancalan wins a UD against Rodel Manego from Pagsabungan in 21 kg. Clinton Martinez from Phil-Aust Boxing Club wins over Emmanuel Galo from Lapu-Lapu City over UD, David Tugot from Talamban defeats Clinton Pongasi from Phil-Aust Boxing Club, Ryan Montrano from Bogo City wins a UD vs. Roswel Nocos from Balamban.
In the fifth fight Christian Gabriel Gingoyon from Lapu-Lapu City / 10.000 BC Boxing Club again defeated Erick Miguel Austria from Cabancalan in 38 kg via UD, King Justy Ala Villamor from Mandaue City defeated Emerald Pishko from 10.000 BC Boxing Club via UD, Ramil Castanares of Mandaue registered the only aftermath win of the night with a TKO in the third verse over Rey Abesia of Phil-Aust Boxing Club. A heavy blow to the head put Abesia on the back and when he tried to get up quickly he staggered back, causing Referee Alex Consigna to abandon the fight immediately.
Brothers Pomar, Marvin and Marco, both from the UV boxing team, faced opposing fates when the former won over UD Benny Magsayo while the older brother Marco lost his fight to Alex Santisima.
John Nino Vega from Lilo-an, Cebu defeated Jim Paul Dignos from Phil-Aust Boxing Club via UD in 44 kg. Division. The fight featured boxing skills as well as clinching and holding, with Vega using his size and range advantage to outsmart his smaller opponent. Berland Robles of the 10,000 BC Boxing Club ousted Patrick Gantuangco of Cabancalan over SD, while Dominique Casanares of the UV boxing team defeated Mel Anthony Ando of the Phil-Aust Boxing Club in 52 kg. about UD.
The undefeated Moleney twins Andrew and Jason were also there to witness the event. Both are currently training at the ALA Boxing Gym in Talamban. The bantamweight / junior featherweight prospect from Victoria, Australia is preparing for an uphill battle against Filipino rivals Renoel Pael and Marco Demecillo respectively in Land Down Under this February
