Albuquerque crews fight fires near Sunport

The Albuquerque Fire Department is investigating a fire near the Sunport. At around 1 a.m., police called the crews into a two-story commercial building and basement on the 2000 block of Boulevard Southeast near Gibson Boulevard. Smoke from the building, which appeared to be boarded up but was once used for offices. AFR said it appeared squatters had been there. The fire was between the first and second floors of the building, making it difficult for crews to extinguish. The fire caused significant damage to the building. There are no reports of injuries. The cause is being investigated.

At around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, the police called the crews to a two-story commercial building and basement on the 2000 block of Boulevard Southeast near Gibson Boulevard.

Upon arrival, the firefighters noticed smoke coming from the building, which appeared to be boarded up but was used for offices at times.

AFR said it appeared to have been squatters.

The fire was between the first and second floors of the building, making it difficult for crews to put out.

The fire caused considerable property damage.

There are no reports of injuries.
