Albuquerque police chase and shoot man early Wednesday morning

GENEVIEVE GLASS IS LIVE AT THE SCENE WITH WHAT SHE JUST FOUND OUT. GENEVIEVE. WELL, IT IS A VERY ACTIVE SCENE HERE. WE’VE GOT ABOUT 20 POLICE OFFICERS THAT CAN COUNT TRYING TO FIGURE OUT JUST WHAT HAPPENED HERE POLICE HEARD ABOUT GUNSHOTS IN THE AREA AROUND 3:00 THIS MORNING. AND WHEN THEY ARRIVED THEY FOUND A MAN TRYING TO BREAK INTO THE CONVENIENCE STORE AT CANDELARIA AND CARLISLE. NOW, THAT MAN RAN AND THEN OFFICERS THEN CHASED HIM. AND AT SOME POINT AN OFFICER FIRED THEIR GUN AND HIT THE MAN. HE’S NOW IN THE HOSPITAL AND IS EXPECTED TO BE OKAY. BUT APD DID SAY ARE WORKING TO VERIFY ALL THIS INFORMATION DURING THE FOOT PURSUIT OF THE OFFICER’S BODY CAMERA DIDN’T BECOME DISLODGED FROM HIS UNIFORM AND WAS RECOVERED IN A PARKING LOT. WE ARE GOING TO DETERMINE WHETHER LOOKING AT SEE TO MAKE SURE THE CAMERA RUNNING AND TO VERIFY ALL THE STOPS TO ENSURE THAT THAT OUR CAMERA WAS BE FOLLOWED. Shooting happened after police say the man was possibly breaking into a store

An Albuquerque police officer shot and hurt a man early Wednesday morning. Police say officers heard about shots fired near Candelaria and Carlisle around 3 am When an officer arrived he found a man who was possibly trying to break into a convenience store. As the officer confronted the man, the man ran away and the officer chased him. At some point, the officer fired their gun and hit the man. Officers found the man a few blocks away and took him to the hospital. Police say the man is expected to survive.APD Chief Harold Medina says while the officer was chasing the man, his lapel camera fell off and was found in a parking lot. Medina says they are looking to see if the camera was working properly, and will make sure their lapel camera policy is being followed.
