Albuquerque private schools are considering new mask guidelines from NMPED

“We’re going to do whatever we can to get back to full-time school, so we’re just glad this is happening, and I think parents see it that way,” she said.

Dr. Jessie Barrie, director of the Bosque School, said the return of students to the classroom actually resulted in a 115% increase in enrollment at the school.

“It was of course a real draw for those looking for a way to let their children learn as much as possible in person,” she said.

A spokesman for St. Pius said they also saw the same increase. Both schools said they have not yet made a decision, but they will look at the new guidelines in detail and decide what to implement in their schools.

“They seem very reasonable, they seem very good on CDC recommendations,” said Barrie.

For now, private schools will still require masks to be worn, but Barrie said once they find out how many students have been vaccinated, they will decide how to proceed with the mask requirement.

“Our COVID task force will look at these guidelines very carefully and determine how we plan to apply them during the school year,” said Barrie.
