Albuquerque Public School board approves teacher contract

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – The Albuquerque School Board voted 6-1 and approved a new contract with the Albuquerque Teachers Federation Wednesday during a two-hour closed-door meeting.

The approved contract is said to include big raises for teachers and licensed school support professionals.

The board had postponed the final vote for a week, so members could review the contract in detail.

APS Superintendent Scott Elder issued the following statement:

“I want to thank the APS Board of Education for its diligence and ultimate approval of the teacher contract.

I hope every employee in the district knows how grateful we are for their hard work, dedication, and resiliency. The Board’s action tonight reflects our appreciation and support for the work carried out daily in our classrooms by every professional who contributes to the education of our students.

We know how stressful this situation has been. It’s good news that we can move forward with the common goal of creating the best school district possible for the students we serve.”
