Albuquerque woman finds cyclist Joe Cottrell alive and well after the accident

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – The search for an injured cyclist is successfully completed. An Albuquerque woman helped a man after his bicycle accident in September but never found out who he was or if he even survived, but the man is alive and well.

“For me, I was driving just fine and I just don’t know what happened,” said Joe Cottrell. He can’t remember the day of the trash. “The only thing I remember was riding and the next moment I woke up in a hospital,” said Joe.

His wife Nancy remembers that it was strange that her husband had been on a drive for so long. “I thought it was going to be a little rainy – you’d think Joe would be home by now,” said Nancy.

On September 25, Cottrell’s electric bike crashed at the intersection of Montano and Tierra Del Rio near Fourth Street. Natalie Smith is one of the people who stopped to help him. Natalie took the cyclist’s bike home that day when Joe was hospitalized. Natalie wanted to return the bike and tried to look for him herself, but had no luck until she shared her story and memories of him with KRQE.

“When she said blue eyes. I knew it was him, even my girlfriend said this is Joe! This is joe! This is his bike! That’s his helmet! ”Said Nancy.

“It’s just phenomenal that it’s being given back to me and that I had the help I really needed back then,” said Joe.

The Cottrells had also tried looking for the bike but discovered it had been stolen. They abandoned the search to focus on Joe’s recovery. He is fine and he is very grateful that he made it to his wife thanks to the people who stopped to help when he needed it most.

“It just couldn’t be better. I met a person I didn’t know before, she got in touch and was hoping she would find me and that I would be fine. I couldn’t ask for more, ”said Joe.

The Cottrell’s plan is to pick up the bike this weekend and finally meet the woman who helped him. Joe says he’s looking forward to driving again.
