BeWellnm shifts from federal to state-run marketplace | Business

Open enrollment began November 1 and will last through January 15 for beWellnm, the Obama-era state health insurance exchange for people who do not receive employer health care or are self-employed.

New Mexicans have an extra month to enroll than in previous years when the December 15th deadline ended.

BeWellnm has developed from the federal marketplace healthcare.gov into a state-run exchange. New Mexico is now one of the 17 states that have a state health exchange.

BeWellnm also has six insurance carriers this year – all based in New Mexico – and the most options since the programs began in 2014.

The health insurance exchange carriers for 2022 are Molina and Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico, both involved since the beginning; Friday Health Plans and Ambetter (aka Western Sky Community Care), which were new to the stock exchange in 2021; True health; and Presbyterian Health Plan, which is returning after an absence since 2016.

Healthinsurance.org has calculated that all airline fares will increase on average by 8.6 percent from the 2021 level. However, the report emphasizes that this does not include subsidies offered by the US federal bailout plan, which can cut rates for most applicants earning up to 400 percent more than the poverty line.

The grants are based on numerous factors, especially household size and income, said Maureen Manring, Head of Communication and Public Relations at beWellnm.

“Four out of five New Mexicans eligible for health insurance through beWellnm can receive premiums of less than $ 10 a month with subsidies,” said Manring. “If you think it was prohibitive before, please look again at the information. This is the reporting year. “

Manring said 15,000 Santa Fe residents were uninsured.

The open registration deadline could be January 15th, but for coverage to begin January 1st, applications must be completed by December 23rd. For applications submitted after December 23rd, the guidelines will go into effect on February 1st.

BeWellnm will have representatives at the Southside Branch Library, 6599 Jaguar Drive, Tuesday from 3pm to 7pm to review insurance options with residents and determine if they are eligible for low cost insurance or high discounts.

All plans from all insurers will be available in all 33 counties; In other states, it’s not common for all counties to be served, Manring said.

Applicants still start at bewellnm.com, but the “Register now” button no longer takes applicants to the healthcare.org page, but stays with bewellnm.

Operating its own exchange system enables beWellnm to track data in real time and have access to data that did not exist before, said Manring.

“It will give us a chance to reach out more specifically [in counties with low application rates]”She said.” We get a real bird’s eye view of what’s going on. “

For the first time, the loyalty center at 833-862-3935 will be occupied by New Mexicans.

“When you call, you know you’re talking to someone in New Mexico,” said Manring. “You have the ability to find resources for assistance.”
