Chance of rain on New Years Eve, New Years Eve in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES – New Years Eve can rain so Las Cruces residents may want to avoid outdoor celebrations if they want to stay dry.

The National Weather Service predicts an 80 percent chance of showers during the day on Friday, December 31st. At night as the area prepares for the New Year, the NWS predicts partially cloudy skies and a 40 percent chance of rain.

On Friday there will be a high of 52 degrees Fahrenheit and a low of around 37 degrees.

The annual New Years Eve Downtown Las Cruces Partnership Chile Drop is held downtown in the Plaza de Las Cruces to celebrate the arrival of 2022 after being held virtually last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The outdoor event starts at 9pm on December 31st and features food, drinks, live music and games.

New Years Day could clear up a bit as the NWS predicts sunny skies, but also predicts a 50 percent chance of rain showers during the day. The high Saturday is expected to be around 49 degrees.

According to the NWS, Saturday night is expected to be clear with no mention of potential rain. A low of 22 degrees is expected in Las Cruces.

The NWS does not show any rain showers in its Sunday forecast. Sunny weather is forecast with a daytime high of 48 degrees and a night low of 25 degrees.
