LAS CRUCES – Between camps, work and school, most of us will be busy this summer season, but there’s always time for fun. Here’s a look at events planned for May through September this year to add to your schedule.

MAY

New Mexico Wine Festival over Memorial Day weekend

The annual Memorial Day weekend wine fest will be held from noon to 6 pm May 28-30 at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. New Mexico-based wineries, live music, vendors and more will be set up at the event for people to enjoy.

JUNE

Eli Cook concert at the Rio Grande Theatre

Blues artist Eli Cook is coming to Las Cruces for an on-night-only concert at the Rio Grande Theater, 211 N. Main St. Fans of the slide guitar will want to head downtown June 3 for the 7 pm concert organized by Visit Las Cruces. Admission is $20 and tickets are available online at www.riograndetheatre.org.

WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

Professional wrestling is coming to New Mexico State University’s Pan American Center June 11. Head over to the 7:30 pm event to watch SmackDown Women’s Champion Charlotte Flair, SmackDown Tag Team Champions The Usos and more wrestle live. JULY

City of Las Cruces’ Fourth of July Celebration

Annual Independence Day celebrations are heating up this year with featured concerts for July 4 and the traditional Electric Light Parade July 3. Rock band Plain White T’s will headline the city’s free public concert July 4 at the Pat and Lou Sisbarro Community Park on New Mexico State University’s main campus. Miami’s Raul Malo wants to open. The city’s fireworks display will follow the concert.

Las Cruces Summer Dock Diving Splash 2022

Take part in or watch the canine sport of dock diving this summer at the Las Cruces Dock Diving & K9 Event Center. Between July 8-10, dogs will be competing for longest and highest jump into the water. Titles and recognitions are up for grabs. Owners can register their pets online at northamericadivingdogs.com.

2022 Downtown Las Cruces Tequila, Taco and Cerveza Fest

After a two-year hiatus, the Downtown Las Cruces Tequila, Taco and Cerveza Fest is back this summer on the Plaza de Las Cruces. The sixth annual festival will be held from 5-11 pm July 16 at 100 N. Main St.

Over 40 tequilas will be available to sample along with live lucha libre wrestling, taco trucks, mariachi music, DJs, salsa sampling, vendors, lawn games and more. Tickets include a sampling cup, tequila samples and five salsa samples. Children 12 and under will be admitted for free if accompanied by a parent. Tickets can be purchased online at www.eventbrite.com.

‘Me, Myself & Shirley’ starring Cindy Williams

Head back down to the Rio Grande Theater in July for a special appearance by “Laverne & Shirley’s” Cindy Williams. The actress will sit down with the audience at 7 pm July 23 and discuss her life in the entertainment business, her relationships with fellow entertainers and more. Tickets are available for purchase online at www.riograndetheatre.org.

An Evening With Journey

Iconic rock band Journey will be jamming out this summer at New Mexico State University’s Pan American Center. Their one night only performance will be held at 7 pm July 29. Tickets available for purchase online at www.ticketmaster.com/journey-las-cruces-new-mexico.

AUGUST

2022 Las Cruces Summer Beer Fest at Plaza de Las Cruces

Over 200 craft beer selections will be available for sampling at the return to this annual summer event. From 5-11 pm Aug. 13 at the Plaza de Las Cruces, located at 100 N. Main St. Included with the price of a ticket are food trucks, live bands, live DJs, activities, vendors and sample glassware.

Tickets are available for purchase by people 21 and up online at www.lcbeerfest.eventbrite.com. Minors 12 and under will be admitted for free as long as they are accompanied by a legal guardian.

2022 Mudd for Matches Tournament

Big Brothers Big Sisters is hosting its 12th annual mud volleyball tournament Aug. 20 outside of the Grapevine Event Plaza, 3900 W. Picacho Ave. Sign up your team and support the organization’s Big/Little matches in the community.

Entries are on a first come first serve basis. The registration deadline is 5 pm Aug 13, but organizers expect the event to sell out before then. Team captains can find their packets online at www.bbbsmountainregion.org.

Las Cruces Comic Con

Las Cruces Comic Con is making a comeback this year Aug. 20-21 at the Las Cruces Convention Center. Featured guests include Aleks Paunovic (“Battlestar Galactica”), artist Joe Staton and wrestler Theodore Marvin DiBiase Sr., aka The Million Dollar Man.

Vendors, exhibitors, costume contests and more are on the schedule. Celebrity photo and autograph sessions are also planned for fans. Tickets can be purchased online at lascrucescomiccon.org.

SEPTEMBER

50th Anniversary Hatch Chile Festival

Head north where the Village of Hatch will be buzzing with activity in late summer with the 50th annual Hatch Chile Festival. Over the weekend of Sept. 3 and 4, all are welcome to enjoy vendors, a carnival, parade, live music, games and watermelon, ice cream and chile eating contests. Usher in the fall season with freshly roasted chile and ristras.

Diez y Seis de Septiembre

Celebrate Mexico’s Independence from Spain in Mesilla over the Sept. 17 and 18 weekend. Sept. 16, 1810 is recognized as the day Mexico rebelled against the Spanish ruling party. Mesilleros celebrate with live music, mariachis, ballet folklorico, food trucks and vendors.
