Christmas Light Parade this weekend in Las Cruces

LAS CRUCES – Las Crucens is waiting for a treat this weekend with the third Christmas Light Parade that will travel through several neighborhoods on Saturday evening December 18th.

Organizer Randall Limon said the parade would be over 100 vehicles and side by side in 2020. The interest was so great this year that he said they would expect between 100 and 200 participating vehicles this weekend.

Limon said sports teams, law enforcement and other groups reached out to him to show interest in participating. Show trucks, side-by-sides, UTVs, lowriders, pallet trucks, floats, and others are all welcome.

“Hope (people) enjoy it,” Limon said. “It’s getting bigger and bigger every year – see if we can make it bigger.”

Vehicles are decorated, Christmas music is played, horns honk, people dance and maybe even Santa Claus will come on one of the trailers.

The plan is for participants to meet at 6:00 p.m. at Pan Am Plaza, 1719 E. University Ave. meeting. People are asked to bring a new toy to be donated to the Salvation Army for children in need. The parade officially starts at 7:30 p.m.

According to Limon, the route begins by traveling west on University Avenue and turning north on Solano Drive. The parade continues to Apodaca Park before heading down Hoagland Road past Mayfield High School.

Four neighborhoods will be visited including Legends West, Picacho Mobile Home Community, Valley Verde Mobile Home Park, and Las Brisas Mobile Home Park. Vehicles will not stop to interact with the community due to COVID-19, but people are welcome to watch the parade from outside their homes.
