City council returns plans for personal return,

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Albuquerque City Council has reversed its plans to resume face-to-face meetings, citing the evolving COVID-19 situation.

The council had previously announced it would return in person on August 2, having only held virtual meetings since spring 2020, but has changed course.

The Council meeting on August 2nd will be conducted via Zoom videoconference.

Council President Cynthia Borrego referred to recent COVID-19 data and guidance, including the designation of Bernalillo County by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as an area with a “significant” amount community virus transmission and the increase in hospital admissions in New Mexico.

“As much as we had hoped for a return to the chambers in August, we still need to be vigilant and respond to changes related to the pandemic and continue to put safety first,” Borrego said in a statement.
