Conference US commissioner pays a visit to New Mexico’s newest member

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KTSM) – 10 days after Conference USA officially admitted New Mexico and three other schools to the league, conference officials paid a visit to Las Cruces Monday evening.

Among the attendees was C-USA Commissioner Judy MacLeod, who, along with Liberty, Jacksonville State and Sam Houston, made her first trip to the NMSU since the Aggies were added to the conference on November 5th.

MacLeod promoted the inclusion of the Aggies and the other universities, which were undoubtedly important additions to a life support conference after losing nine teams to the American Athletic Conference and the Sun Belt Conference during the realignment.

“This is a great day to officially celebrate New Mexico’s entry into Conference USA,” said MacLeod. “It’s been a long month and we’re all very excited. I wanted to get to know those involved and be part of the celebration. “

MacLeod and the League also received a big boost last week when Middle Tennessee and Western Kentucky decided to stay in Conference USA after violently flirting with the MAC. Their decision to stay on the pitch, plus the four new additions to the conference, give the league nine teams, a place MacLeod feels comfortable in. However, there is always the possibility that the league could add more universities to strengthen itself.

Despite the current national perception of C-USA due to the number of teams that have left the league in recent weeks, MacLeod said she was confident that the new teams that have been added will give the league a big boost, which people’s minds could change nationally.

“We will continue to look around and see if there is anything that makes us stronger and evaluate that. But now that we have the set of nine, we are in a good position and we can take our time with that, ”said MacLeod. “In the long term, I think that this group can really grow together and stand out, and I think that those who doubt us will be surprised in the long run.”

The state of New Mexico and the other three new additions to C-USA will officially join the league on July 1, 2023.
