Crash on I-10 west outside Las Cruces; four injured, including a 5-year-old child

UPDATE: Four people were injured in a crash on I-10 West near Mesquite. All four were rushed to a hospital in El Paso, according to the New Mexico State Police. The extent of their injuries is unknown.

State Police said an 18-year-old driver was driving too fast on I-10 West when he left the street and collided with a parked Buick Encore.

There were two women and a 5-year-old child in this car. According to police, one woman was 26 and the other 21.

The state police announced that the highway was reopened after a brief interruption.

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico – Multiple lanes of traffic on I-10 West near Las Cruces are closed following a major accident.

It happened at about 8 a.m. at mile post 146. The New Mexico Department of Transportation said both lanes were closed. No information is available about injuries, but New Mexico State Police are investigating.

Traffic will be diverted from I-10 at Mesquite to 1037 Frontage Road. Traffic is jammed for several miles. Expect delays.
