Dispensary aimed for first recreational cannabis sale in New Mexico

LAS CRUCES – A Las Cruces dispensary is aiming to be the first business in the state legally to sell cannabis for recreational adult use when retail sales begin April 1.

R. Greenleaf Dispensary, a retail cannabis shop at 2750 Mall Drive #206, will open at 12:01 am Friday for recreational pot sales, just after legal sales become effective.

Jessie Hunt, a spokesperson for R.Greenleaf/Schwazze, said the Las Cruces shop has been operating as a medical dispensary but is now licensed to sell to all adults over 21 when it becomes legal.

Since the City of Las Cruces, unlike other major cities in the state, has not set operating hours for cannabis businesses, R. Greenleaf could become one of, if not the first business, to legally sell to adults, Hunt said.

Its Sante Fe dispensary, for instance, won’t be able to open until 7 am Friday.

The dispensary has hired Luchador Food Truck to cater the event, since Hunt says to expect lines out the door. The first 50 customers will receive goodie bags containing pens, stickers, T-shirts, glasses and the chance to win a Puffco Peak device and a 50 percent off certificate.

R. Greenleaf, who has dispensaries in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, Roswell, Grants and Las Vegas, sells a selection of cannabis flower, edibles, derivatives and prerolls, Hunt said.
