Donald Carrol Symons – Herald Democrat

Donald Carrol Symons, 89, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on May 18, 2022.

Don was born January 22, 1933, in Henrietta, Texas to Edward J. and Freda Iselin Symons. He graduated from Henrietta High School in 1950. Always industrial and self-driven, he worked putting himself through Texas Wesleyan College with a Bachelor of Science degree in August 1953.

Don was drafted December 10, 1953, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal in the Army and was honorably discharged December 10, 1955. (January 30, 1953, with more than 30-year career with Halliburton Company.)

Don met his beloved wife R. Ann Symons of Shawnee, Oklahoma in Farmington, New Mexico. They were married in August 1958. In February of 1960 they took a two-year assignment to Argentina before going on to work in Venezuela and Libya. He returned to the States in late 1962 to work out of the Dallas, Texas offices. He took an early retirement in April 1979. After traveling in many countries, it was a joy to travel in an airstream in our country, often with family, friends and a “gaggle of grandchildren” who loved him immensely.

Don is survived by his wife on nearly 64 years, Ann Symons, two children, Catherine Ann Symons, Don Edward and wife Lupe Symons of Sherman, Texas. Six Grandchildren and Five Great-Grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and two sisters.

A private celebration of life and honors for his military service will be held in Henrietta, Texas.
