Volunteers come to the rescue for a local couple

Dozens of volunteers came together to help a well-deserved couple in Santa Fe.

Volunteers from the nonprofit PVF Roundtable came together for a heartfelt community project in Santa Fe, Galveston County.

The group includes employees from the pipe, valve and valve industry who serve oil and gas companies in the greater Houston area.

“You have to take care of those who take care of others,” says Margie Dalton, board member of the PVF Roundtable.

That was the caring attitude of all the volunteers who gave their time to help a very deserving couple. Volunteers who do everything from large-scale gardening to cleaning up old construction debris that has built up over the years to help Linda and Dana Huoni in Santa Fe.

“They are very involved in the community and their church and give a lot back. And sometimes you’re busy helping others and don’t have time to worry about your own business, ”says Margie.

Lots of heavy lifting for a couple lifting another is a perfect compromise.

“We have 40-45 volunteers and we wanted to give something back to the oil and gas community. We’re big in Texas, so it feels great to give something back to this great family, ”says Tray Harrell, who is a volunteer and representative of the PVF Roundtable.

Linda and Dana are impressed with the TLC they are getting from PVF.

“Absolutely unbelievable! We did renovations and every time a heavy garbage collection came we couldn’t get ahead of it so this is great! I just pulled up and said, ‘Oh God please?’ But hey – it happens! We don’t have to be ashamed of it. I feel peaceful. I have the feeling that we can have our park here again that we once dreamed of, “smiles Linda.

“I am overwhelmed! I can see the street from my front porch and the property line from the back porch! It is wonderful that this group came out and blessed us, and we hope they are blessed too, ”says Dana.

The Huonis have lived here for 25 years and are happy about the renewal.

“It’s just amazing to see everyone out there taking part and defying the snakes and poison ivy, poison oak and spiders! We are proud of the community beyond ourselves, ”says Linda.

Kids who even join in and love to share a full account of creatures out here.

“We saw a spider, but no snakes and we saw a frog,” explains a cute group of children.

Initially the property was solid forestry, but now there is plenty of space here for the family to enjoy. The volunteers also got something from it, with a warm sense of camaraderie.

“I try to give as much as I can to help others, not just doing things for myself. I know all the people in the industry and we’ve become friends so I’m enjoying it, ”says Alice Matamoros.

“God bless you! It’s more than we expected. I thought maybe five or six people might come out and throw a few things in the bin, but this crew is a real blessing, ”smiles Dana.
