Ledes from the Land of Enchantment

Elsie Maesta’s Obituary (1954-2021) – Farmington, NM

Elsie Armenta Maestas from Bloomfield was sent home on Sunday 5th September 2021 to be with Our Lord.
Elsie was born on July 14, 1954 in Farmington, New Mexico to Faustin and Rose Armenta. Elsie was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend.
Elsie’s world consisted of her husband Ron, her son Ricky, grandchildren Ryan and Jacob, and their family. She loved to pamper her grandchildren more than anything, even though they called it blessed and not pampered. Elsie looked forward to hosting family events and planned a year in advance for the next event to make sure everyone was together. We can’t forget the “sister meal” she looked forward to every week. She loved decorating for the holidays, and every year people only came to see her ornate Christmas tree. Her daughter-in-law Felicia loved her decorating tips and loved shopping with her, as did all of her sisters and nieces. She and Ron were known for holding one of the largest Easter egg hunts in Bloomfield each year, which consisted of well over 100 people at their home. Elsie loved her son Ricky more than words could ever express. Although she only had one son, many called her mother and were grateful for her special love. It was called the glue that kept the family together and kept everyone in step with each other, everyone else may call it gossip.
It often felt like Elsie knew everyone in Bloomfield. She has never met a stranger, a quality like her father Faustin. Her grandchildren believed that their favorite hobby was making phone calls. She was a joker; loved to pull april fools around and always break the silence in a quiet setting. She checked into others daily to make sure they were okay. If you ever visited Ron and Elsie you knew there would be chips and salsa on the counter for you. The children always knew where the candy drawer was and went to her as soon as they entered the house.
You and Ron had a real love. Elsie loved her trips to Durango and Ron showed her all the sights. Ron said even if they didn’t do anything, they would have fun and it was his world.
Elsie was preceded in death by her parents Faustin and Rose Armenta, the brothers Joe, Richard and Jerry, the nephew Sammy and the in-laws Ray and Pauline Maestas.
She leaves behind her husband Ron Maestas, son Ricky Candelario, daughter-in-law Felicia, grandsons Ryan and Jacob, brothers Bennie Armenta (Marla), Sam Armenta (Nina), Bobby Armenta (Glenna); Sisters Mary Burnham (Keith), Inez Edge (Dennis), Gloria McFall (George) and sisters-in-law Chubby Armenta, Nora McElroy, Beverly Connor and brother-in-law Rick Maestas as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services are held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 307 North Church Street, Bloomfield, New Mexico 87413. Rosary on Monday, September 13th at 7:00 p.m. and funeral on Tuesday, September 14th at 10:00 a.m. The burial will take place immediately in Bloomfield Cemetery.
