The Santa Fe Plaza is lit up every year during the holidays. The area is in the running for USA Today’s 10 Best Public Squares. (Eddie Moore/Journal)
New Mexicans know the beauty that lies within the Santa Fe Plaza.
The town square is currently in the mix for USA Today’s 10 Best Public Squares.
The historic plaza features the 400-year-old Palace of the Governors and is styled after a traditional Spanish-style plaza.
Today’s plaza is made up of galleries, restaurants, bookshops and boutiques. It’s not a rare sight to see Native American artists selling goods along the side of the Plaza near the Palace of the Governors. The area is often a draw to not only tourists, but film and TV productions.
As of Tuesday, Jan. 10, Santa Fe is in second place behind Centerway Square in Corning, New York.

Voting ends on Monday, Feb. 6, and the results will be announced on Feb. 17.
