Farmington Man Sentenced to Three Years in Prison for Federal Gun Violation | USAO-NM

ALBUQUERQUE, NM – Gregory Diaz, 34, of Farmington, New Mexico, was sentenced to three years and one month in prison in federal court on December 14 for in possession of a firearm and ammunition. Diaz pleaded guilty on May 12.

According to the settlement agreement and other court records, Diaz sold a .40 caliber pistol to an undercover law enforcement officer on October 3, 2018. At the time, Diaz had four previous felony convictions in the state of New Mexico, including possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine), attempted break-in, child abuse, and possession of a firearm or destructive device by a felon. As a convicted felon, Diaz was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition.

After Diaz is released from prison, he must be released under supervision for three years.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated this case. US assistant attorneys Jaymie L. Roybal and Jack E. Burkhead are prosecuting the case.
