Get to know Santa Fe volleyball’s Rylie Tam

After giving the Santa Fe Raiders a 2-0 start to their season in the week of August 23-27, Rylie Tam has reached a milestone of her own.

In two games that week, Tam had 29 kills, 14 digs, and three aces. Tam also picked up her 1,000. Career kill when the Raiders beat Ocala Vanguard on August 26th. The senior added nine more kills in Santa Fe’s 3-0 win over Middleburg on Tuesday night, bringing her season to 38 overall.

Now let’s learn a little more about Tam:

A perfect day for me looks like this: Work out before school, go to school half the day, check out for a nap, and then have a really big game with lots of people there.

Matchday: How do you prepare? We spent most of the day together as a team. We set up the gym when it’s a home game and then go to team lunch and jam to music in the locker room.

Game winning scenario you’ve dreamed of: Having a big kill after a close and exciting game to win the state championship.

Hardest to say “no”: iced coffee

Interesting things about you apart from volleyball: I also play tennis.

Joker in the team: Honestly, we’re all pretty funny and spend most of our time making fun of each other, but probably Sarah Falck because she says the most random things at random times.

Keys to performing as well as last week: Our serve and attitude were both very strong last week, which makes my job easy.

Last year was … Dealing with COVID over the past year has been really frustrating as the constant new restrictions and quarantines made it difficult to focus on our jobs.

The most embarrassing moment on the pitch: In the second year we played Buchholz the floor was slippery and I went back to the serve and slipped and fell right on my bum.

Nothing makes me for a game like: When the other team talks a lot.
