How to help Ruidoso residents, first responders impacted by fires

RUIDOSO – Several organizations and groups are asking for donations to help people near Ruidoso who have been displaced by the McBride and Nogal Canyon Fires. Check out these options if you are looking for a way to help.

The Village of Ruidoso announced Thursday morning that they are overwhelmed with physical donations. However, monetary donations can be coordinated through the Ruidoso Valley Chamber of Commerce. They can be reached by calling 575-257-7395.

Pioneer bank

Pioneer Bank announced that they opened an account to collect donations for relief and aid in Ruidoso. People can take monetary donations to any Pioneer Bank location and funds will later be distributed through a partner organization.

Las Cruces’ Revolution 120

The Las Cruces nonprofit Revolution 120 is accepting monetary donations through Facebook with a posted goal of $10,000. According to the post, the organization intends to fill trucks with supplies for those impacted by the fires. Water, food, ice and other supplies will be purchased with donations.

Donations can be made through Facebook at www.facebook.com/donate. Donations will be matched by Revolution 120.

Mescalero Apache Tribe

The Mescalero Apache Tribe announced that they are accepting donations of all kinds to support firefighters, first responders, emergency personnel and displaced Ruidoso residents. Donations may include bottled water, non-perishable food items, and other items. Donations can be dropped off at the Mescalero Community Center at 108 Central Ave., Mescalero.

Animal evacuations

The Otero County Fairgrounds are available to take into evacuated livestock. The Lincoln County Fairgrounds are currently full, according to the US Forest Service.

K-Bob’s Ruidoso

K-Bob’s Steakhouse in Ruidoso on Wednesday, April 13 offered a limited menu for first responders and displaced families. Food options included hamburgers, chicken strips and their salad wagon.

Alamogordo Public Schools

Alamogordo Public Schools is accepting donations for Ruidoso residents at The HUB, located at 805 E. 12th St. Building B, Alamogordo. They are accepting personal hygiene products, toiletries, water, sports drinks, packaged snack items, non-perishable packaged meals, new undergarments in child and adult sizes, diapers, formula, sanitizing wipes and more.

Donations can be dropped off between 8 am and 6 pm Monetary donations will not be accepted at this location. For more information call 575-430-0191.

HELP New Mexico at three locations

The social services nonprofit is accepting donations of water and first-aid supplies at three locations in New Mexico, which include:

  • Alamogordo Center, 1800 1st St., Alamogordo (Call Selena Barrajas at 575-434-6313 for more info)
  • La Luz Center, 8 Baca Rd., La Luz (Call Rachel de la Cruz at 575-437-4485 for more info)
  • Tularosa Center, 1050 Bookout Rd., Tularosa (Call Demeca Parker at 575-585-4818 for more info)

Alamogordo Center of Commerce

Bottled water, toiletries, blankets, pre-packaged snacks, non-perishable food items, cleaning wipes and other items. Donations can be dropped until 4 pm April 13 and between 9 am and noon April 14 at 1301 N. White Sands Blvd., Alamogordo.

Alamogordo Fire Department

Alamogordo’s fire department has partnered with several groups to collect donations which will be distributed to those effected by wildfires. Items they will accept include bottled water, hygiene products to include feminine hygiene products and baby diapers of all sizes, brand new undergarments, blankets and non-perishable food items. Monetary donations will not be accepted.

Items can be dropped off between 8 am and 5 pm at 619 Texas Ave., Alamogordo. Items can be left after hours if fire shift personnel in the station. For questions call 575-635-7589.

Turner Insurance Agency

The Tularosa insurance agency is open for donations to those impacted in Ruidoso at 503 Central Ave., Tularosa.

American Red Cross

The Village of Ruidoso announced that the Red Cross is currently at capacity for volunteers. However, the organization is taking names and numbers of potential volunteers. People will be contacted as there is a need. Inquiries can be made by calling 505-265-8514.

Ruidoso Village Hall and Mountain Montessori

Water, Gatorade, pre-packaged food and toiletries are all being accepted at Village All, located at 313 Cree Meadows Drive, Ruidoso.

Those needing or wanting to donate blankets, non-perishables, clothing and children’s items can go to Mountain Montessori, located at 122 Carrizo Canyon Road, Ruidoso.

BINge LLC of Las Cruces and Alamogordo

The bin store is working to donate cases of Cliff Bars and other food items to those in Ruidoso. They announced via Facebook that people who are interested in donating items can drop them off at either of their locations, at 1490 Missouri Ave., Las Cruces and 1713 10th St., Alamogordo.
