Joe Guillen is the executive director of the New Mexico School Boards Association. The association believes that students have a responsibility to be active lifelong learners and to contribute to their own success, that all learners should have equal opportunities for a quality education that has the tools for a quality life and vision for the future. that quality education reflects diverse community values ​​and capitalizes on the multicultural strengths of the community; and that parents, schools and communities are partners who share the responsibility for providing quality education. Joe exemplifies these beliefs.

If you ask Joe about his work experience, he will tell you he has three careers behind him. The first was in the New Mexico State Planning Office, where he was a director, among other things. He also worked in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for Finance and Administration, where he worked with cities and counties and oversaw the local government department as director. After 28 years of service in the state government, he served three terms in his local school board. During this time he was very active in the state and state school council associations.

In 2007, Joe was hired as the Executive Director of the NMSBA after serving as a lobbyist for the association. As executive director, Joe leads four major events each year, a leadership retreat, an annual convention, the institute for board members, and the school law conference in addition to the regional meetings. He also serves in the legislature and Congress, helping with the provision of political services, superintendent tracing services, and board training.

In his role as Executive Director, Joe has been supporting APS since 2009 in offering comprehensive guidance for school leaving candidates.
