Lady Chaps ranked 12th after Round 1 in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (October 18, 2021) – The Lubbock Christian University women’s golf team has two players in 37th place and is 12th as a team after the first round of the Nick Turner Invitational.

On the par 72 course of the Arroyo del Oso Golf Club, the Lady Chaps played a 325 as a team in the opening round of the tournament. They had 31 pars and nine birdies that day and are 12th before the final round on Tuesday.

At the head of the team after round one are Prestley Hammond and Kyra Schmuhl, who both shot a six-over-78 in round one. Hammond had nine pars and a pair of birdies that day. Schmuhl also had two birdies and her 78 is the best round of her young college career.

Behind the leaders is Lily Griffin, who is currently 53rd with an 82 on the first day. Her day started with a birdie on the 514-foot par 5, but she ended up +10 on the way to day two.

To complete their team standings, the Lady Chaps took one of Aspen Escamilla’s and Ella Booe’s 87s, who had identical lap results.

Lubbock Christian will look to improve his standing and play the final round of his fall non-championship season on Tuesday.
