Lady Jaguars struggle offensively again as Storm surge to win | Sports

Rio Rancho Cleveland 68, Española Valley 65 (OT)

What happened: For the second game in a row, the Storm bounced back from a double-digit first-half deficit to claim a win. This time it happened on the street at Edward Medina High School as the Sundevils built a 36:26 half-time lead. It took The Storm an 11-1 scoring run in the middle of the fourth quarter to make up a 53-43 deficit and force overtime. In overtime, Elijah Brody lost a 3 for the sophomore year to give the Storm a 66-63 advantage that he never gave up.

Top player: Sophomore Daniel Steverson had a team high of 24 for the Storm. Española had Jayden Martinez with 24 points.

What’s next: Española (10-2) will face El Paso (Texas) Socorro at the Rio Rancho Holiday Hoops Classic on December 28th.

Rio Rancho Cleveland 59, capital 18

What happened: A storm is brewing in the first quarter, leading to a disastrous start for the Lady Jaguars in Rio Rancho. Capital failed to score in the first 8 minutes as Cleveland took a 21-0 lead and was on their way to a 28-8 halftime advantage. The Lady Jaguars closed offensively to end the game, scoring just two points, while the Storm built a 48-16 lead up to that point.

Top player: Abriana Mares had eight points ahead of the Lady Jaguars while Aubrey Jaramillo had 12 points for Cleveland.

What’s next: Capital (3-9) won’t see the court until the new year and will travel to Los Alamos on January 4th.
