Las Cruces City Councilor Gabe Vasquez is running for Congress

Las Cruces City Councilor Gabe Vasquez has announced that he is a candidate for New Mexico’s Second Congressional District.

The third district councilor launched its campaign on Wednesday morning.

A press release stated in his campaign: “There is evidence that Gabe fought for the New Mexicans. He has worked to raise working class wages, has reinvested and developed economically in underserved communities, has been a strong advocate for immigration reform, and is a champion for our youth and the environment. “

Gabe Vasquez previously worked for Democratic Senator Martin Heinrich of New Mexico and founded the Nuestra Tierra Conservation Project, an organization that connects border communities with public land. Vasquez, a graduate of NMSU, was also the Executive Director of the Hispano Chamber of Commerce of Las Cruces.

Vasquez is a first generation American who was born in El Paso and raised in Ciudad Juárez. He is currently completing his first term as Councilor of Las Cruces. Vasquez has already said that he will not seek re-election to the city council.
