Las Cruces volleyball reaches the quarterfinals of class 5A

LAS CRUCES – The Las Cruces volleyball team unceremoniously made Hobbs in the first round of the 5A state volleyball tournament.

The # 7 Bulldawgs beat Hobbs at Las Cruces High on Tuesday by 25-21, 25-15, 25-13.

The Bulldawgs will play against the No. 2 seeded Centennial in the doubles elimination quarter-finals on Friday afternoon at the Rio Rancho Events Center.

Alexis Massey and Mytzelth Morales each had seven kills, Cameron Rodriguez had four service aces, Isabella Barrera had 14 digs, and Kiana Cox had 3.5 blocks.

The Bulldawgs are without a win in four games against Centennial this season.

Mytzelth Morales (8), Amar'e Stout (8) and Mackinzie Thurman (6) discuss strategy after the Bulldawgs scored a point against the Hobbs Eagles in the first round of the State Playoffs.

“We distributed the ball,” said Las Cruces coach Keith Leupold. “This is the fifth time we’re playing Centennial.”
