ALBUQUERQUE, NM (KRQE) – A Los Lunas man is behind bars in connection with an armed robbery, much of which has been captured by surveillance cameras. Robert Goldberg Jr. is accused of a weeklong rampage in which a mother and son were held at gunpoint – all the way to several shops in the northeastern heights of Albuquerque. What began as an after-school trip to the hairdresser quickly turned terrifying for Kali Bronson and her young son.
“My son was already out of the car and I was just about it, and a black Chevy Avalanche pulled up right next to us, right next to my car,” said Bronson, who says they’ll be near Central and around 3:30 PM Edith was robbed “He pulled out a gun and told me to give him my purse and I hesitated a little and he came out of the car to get it. The suspect left the scene and just days later, police identified him as 57-year-old Robert Goldberg Jr. from Los Lunas. Officials say the Bronson heist was just one stop on a week-long subway crime tour – hard to miss with the same getaway vehicle every time.
On October 12, police said Goldberg was hosting a tropical smoothie cafe in the South Valley. The surveillance video shows the moment he pulled out a gun and got away with the cash drawer and over $ 1,200.
A few days later, court records show he went to a number of stores one afternoon, first chasing a subway near Wyoming and Menaul, before leaving with empty pockets. Next, he played the Great Clips about Montgomery and San Mateo, pulled out a gun, and ran off with around $ 300. Then, one block down, police say he pulled the gun out while a Baskin Robbins was driving through and got away with a scoop of ice cream but no cash.
Goldberg’s alleged robbery came to an end temporarily as of last Tuesday when police tried to pull the avalanche before it took off and fell into a ditch. Officials say Goldberg started on foot but was eventually struck down by a taser. Now he faces several crimes. Bronson says the ordeal made her rethink her surroundings.
“You don’t expect this to happen to you,” Bronson said. “Pretty traumatizing for us and it changed my point of view. Especially as a woman you are aware of what is going on around you and you get out and look for people who are around you. “
These are just a few allegations in a long line of allegations for Goldberg from the 1980s, including DWI, vehicle theft, and battery. He is also charged with a number of armed robberies in the El Paso area.
An application for pre-trial detention has been made. A future court date has not yet been set.
