Margaret McNamara Obituary (2022) – Santa Fe, NM

MARGARET “PEGGY” MCNAMARA
Margaret “Peggy” McNamara, 64, of Santa Fe, New Mexico passed away unexpectedly on June 30, 2022. Peggy was born in the Bronx, New York and attended grade school & high school there. She found her life’s vocation after enrolling and then graduating from Ann May School of Nursing and later earning her BSN from Monmouth University both in Long Branch, NJ. Her parents maintained a summer home in Brick Township, New Jersey where Peggy enjoyed days at the beach & nights at Jimmy Byrne’s Sea Girt Inn. She enjoyed having fun with family and friends, and many of her closest relationships go back to those early days at the Jersey Shore.
In the 1980’s, Peggy packed her little red Fiero and belongings onto a moving van and settled in Albuquerque, NM. She continued her passion for nursing, eventually moving to Los Alamos and finally to Santa Fe. Some of Peggy’s nursing work centered on providing hospice and home health care, using that experience in caring for her own parents’ last years.
Peggy loved New Mexico, its people, its culture, and the experiences it provided. She loved to travel and embarked on numerous trips to the Caribbean, Europe, Mexico, and cruising to Alaska. She was most inspired by her trip to the Holy Land with Mary Ellen Ascough, a dear childhood friend.
Peggy was predeceased by her parents: James & Catherine; her brother, Stephen & her lifelong friend, Philomena Marcus. She is survived by her brother, James (Maryann) of Hadlyme, Connecticut and William (Gina) of Island Heights, New Jersey. Peggy was especially close to her seven nieces and nephews & their children, never missing birthdays, holiday wishes, the results of the game or scholastic honors. Her nieces and nephews are James (Krissie), Maureen (Kevin), Brian (Melissa), Sean (Angela), Brett, Andrew and Kelci (Dan) and great niece, Lauren and great nephews, Aidan, Ryan, Kieran, Lucas, and Baby John.
A celebration of her life will be held on Friday July 15, 2022, from 4 pm to 7 pm at Berardinelli Funeral Home, 1339 Luisa Street, Santa Fe, New Mexico. A memorial service will be held on Saturday July 30, 2022, at 11:00 am at Saint Joseph’s Cemetery, 56 Cedar Grove Road, Toms River, New Jersey. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Peggy’s name to the Santa Fe Community Foundation – Community Resiliency Fund supporting wildfire relief programs.
