By Mike Cook

A new exhibition entitled “Allure of the Near East: Treasures of the Huntington Museum of Art” will open on October 29th and continue until January 22nd, 2022 at the Las Cruces Museum of Art (MOA).

The exhibit “features 45 decorative arts and crafts from the Middle East (roughly India to the Mediterranean Sea) ranging from ceramics and glass to metalwork and prayer rugs,” said Jennifer McClung, curator of the city museum (exhibitions). “This also includes books / calligraphy and scientific instruments. The collection comes from a couple of Syrian immigrants who donated their collection to the Huntington Museum of Art in Huntington, West Virginia, ”said McClung.

MOA is the first hosting institution for this exhibition, announced the city of Las Cruces in a press release.

The exhibition includes objects – some of which are centuries old – that were intended for both palaces and ordinary houses, the city said.

MOA, 491 N. Main St., is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. It can be reached via Stop 1 on RoadRUNNER Transit Route 1.
