Neighbors concerned about New Mexico United Stadium plans

City guides say this project is a community investment that will help Albuquerque grow.

“For them, it’s not just about building a football field, it’s about investing in the community, creating jobs, creating economic vitality, building new infrastructure and being able to take advantage of some of the newer amenities that some” of our new developments, ”said Lawrence Rael, the chief operations officer for the City of Albuquerque.

Community leaders in Barelas recently released a statement outlining the neighborhood’s agreement with the city. You can read the full explanation here. The leaders said their priority was to protect residents and give them a voice in the process.

The city agreed that it would not sign a lease in any neighborhood until an agreement on community services was also signed.

“The non-profit agreement is a legally binding document that we are putting together with the help of the community to both protect ourselves from putting things in the community that we don’t want and to imagine what we would like,” said Lisa Padilla, the president of the Barelas Neighborhood Association.

Both community and city guides are concerned about the misinformation that is circulating about the stadium project. Officials say they have plenty of resources available on the Barelas Neighborhood Association’s Facebook page.
