New early voting locations in Las Cruces and the region

LAS CRUCES, NM – The Doña Ana County Administrator’s Office announced on Thursday that an additional Mesilla Early Voting website will be made available to voters on October 16. Early in-person voting for the 2021 Regular Local Elections (RLE) will begin October 5 at the Doña Ana County Government Center.

“Elections will be held across the county on November 2nd,” said Secretary Amanda López Askin. “We added Mesilla Town Hall as an early voting location this year because we wanted to make sure that every parish with elections has a place for their voters to vote.”

The Government Center Early Voting will last through October 29, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Saturday, October 30, 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The early voting will be closed on Monday October 11th to celebrate Indigenous Peoples Day.

Alternate voting venues, including the new Mesilla website, will be available October 16 through October 30 and will be open Tuesday through Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the following locations:

Anthony Town Hall – 820 Highway 478, Anthony, NM

· Delores C. Wright Education Center – 400 E. Lisa Dr., Chaparral, NM

· Hatch High School – 170 E. Herrera Rd., Hatch, NM

Sunland Park Doña Ana Community College – 3365 McNutt Rd., Sunland Park, NM

· Sonoma Elementary School – 4201 Northrise Dr., Las Cruces, NM

· NMSU Corbett Center – 1600 International Mall, Las Cruces, NM

Las Cruces City Hall – 700 N. Main, Las Cruces, NM

Mesilla Town Hall – 2231 Avenida de Mesilla, Mesilla, NM

From October 5th, ballot papers will also be sent to voters who have approved the motions. Absence requests are available online at NMVote.org and the deadline for submitting a request is October 28th.

“NMVote.org is a great resource provided by the New Mexico Secretary of State. It allows people to register to vote, check and change their status and request a postal vote, ”said Secretary Amanda López Askin. “If someone cannot access the website, our offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., where our staff can help with voting and other services.”

Voters wishing to vote by postal vote can return their postal vote by post, at any polling station, or at the office of Doña Ana, the county clerk. New Mexico electoral law allows caregivers and immediate family members to post a postal ballot on behalf of a voter, but only at the Doña Ana County Clerk’s office.

Same day registration is available in all alternative early voting locations and at Doña Ana County Government Center while the early voting is taking place. Qualified voters can register to vote or update their existing registration information before voting.

The deadline for postal voting is the election day, November 2, 2021, by 7:00 p.m.

The last registration date for RLE 2021 is October 5th at 5:00 p.m.

The Secretariat continues to follow all COVID-19-related guidelines from the federal, state and county governments, and encourages the public to stay up to date with current updates to keep the public safe.
