New Tai Chi Chuan class at Branigan Library

City of Las Cruces release

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Ave., is pleased to announce a new beginners Tai Chi Chuan class, from 9 am to 10 am every Thursday, starting July 7, 2022 and continuing through Sept. 29, 2022.

Classes will be at Albert Johnson Park, 896 N. Main St., adjacent to Branigan Library.

The Tai Chi form comprises a series of slow movements flowing from one to the next. Tai Chi was created to improve health, meditation, and self-defense.

The movements are done slowly and calmly. The emphasis is on relaxation, correct posture, and the efficient use of muscles.

Studies have shown that Tai Chi can help lower blood pressure and improve balance, coordination, and flexibility. It teaches stress management and basic self-defense, and conflict management skills.

The class will be learning Professor Cheng Man-Ching’s 37-posture Tai chi Chuan form. The instructor, Steven Haydu, has more than 30 years of experience practicing and teaching Tai Chi Chuan.

Registration is not required. If you would like more information, please visit our event calendar at https://las-cruces.assabetinteractive.com/calendar.
