NM State Earns Shutout Win over UT Permian Basin

LAS CRUCES, NM – The NM State women’s tennis team picked up its second dual match victory of 2022, shutting out UT Permian Basin 7-0 at the NM State Tennis Complex Sunday afternoon.

DOUBLE

• Chloe Gavino and Lisa Zhu won a 6-1 decision against Lore Mewis and Lisa Guitton.
• NM State continued its strong start in doubles play when Gavi Kalaga and Natsuki Nishimura defeated Krystal Smith and Rhea Singh 6-4 on line two.
• The Aggies completed their clean sweep of doubles action with a 6-4 win on line three. Miranda Bishard and Bella Nguyen got that win over Teodora Vrucan and Brooke Runyan.

SINGLE

• All six Aggies won their respective singles matches, beginning with Kalaga’s 6-4, 6-0 triumph over Giutton on line four.
• Gavino gathered up a 6-2, 6-1 top-flight win over Vruncan before Nguyen clinched an NM State win by way of a 6-2, 6-3 triumph against Krystal Smith in flight five action.
• Bishard kept the Aggies’ hopes of a shutout alive with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Runyan.
• Zhu pulled away from Rhea Singh after a neck-and-neck opening set, posting a 7-6 (6), 6-0 win.
• Nishimura closed things out with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Mewis.

COMING UP NEXT

• Next week, NM State travels to Stephenville, Texas, where they’ll start Western Athletic Conference play. The Aggies’ first WAC matchup of 2022 pits them against UTRGV at 2:00 pm Friday afternoon.
