LAS CRUCES, NM – After competing in a whirlwind of meets last weekend in Los Angeles, the NM State track & field team returns to the Land of Enchantment for the Don Kirby Tailwind Open, hosted by the University of New Mexico on Thursday, April 23rd at the Great Friends of UNM Track Stadium.
Last weekend, the Aggies put together a multitude of strong performances against some of the stiffest competition in the nation at the Mt. SAC relays/Bryan Clay Invitational/Beach Invitational/Pacific Coast Invitational.
Phetisang Makhethe dominated the hammer , crushing the school record by nearly three meters with a throw of 63.78m. This mark places her atop the NCAA Mountain Region leaderboard for the event and 15th in West Region Qualifiers.
Other Aggies who’s performances this past weekend placed them in the top-ten of the Mountain Region include Valissa Brown (9th, 13.76) and Aliyah Logan (10th, 13.82) in the 100m dash, Terice Steen (8th, 59.65) in the 400m hurdles , Makiya Moore (10th, 50.87m) in the discus, Emily Hernandez (7th, 56.90m) in the hammer throw and Mariah Humphrey (9th, 46.29m) in the javelin toss.
