Community snapshot: Las Cruces’ Parks and Recreation Department’s adaptive programs recently entered the Southern New Mexico State Fair as a competitive exhibit group, finishing third.
Projects will be submitted to Las Cruces Public Schools and will be displayed in the Veterans Building on the exhibition grounds during the fair. This year’s theme was “The Eighties!” The booth featured boomboxes on three walls and paid homage to one of the most popular video games of the 1980s, “Pac Man”.
The Parks and Recreation Department’s Adaptive Programs, formerly known as the Therapeutics Program, have participated in the Southern New Mexico State Fair for more than 10 years. In 2019, the Adaptive Program entry took second place at the fair.
Leisure time coordinator Jacqueline Meraz plans the projects in-house, which are used for entries on the project stand. All participants in the city’s Adaptive Art and Crafts program are encouraged to join the project. To submit an item for a community snapshot, email a photo and information to [email protected].
