Piedmont Partners with East Lake Foundation to Establish COVID-19 Vaccine Clinic | NeighborNewsOnline.com | Local news source for the suburb of Atlanta

Buckhead-based Piedmont Healthcare and the East Lake Foundation are teaming up to launch May 15.

This clinic, held at the East Lake Golf Club, follows the March 10th that Piedmont also partnered with the Foundation to vaccinate 50 educators at the Charles R. Drew Charter School, also in East Lake.

The March 15 clinic is held on the first day the state allows vaccinations to residents aged 55 and over and adults with a high-risk condition. It is being arranged with the foundation’s partner organizations: residents of The Villages at East Lake, East Lake Golf Club, East Lake Family YMCA, and Sheltering Arms East Lake.

People vaccinated on March 15th will receive their second dose on April 12th.

“Piedmont exists to serve its communities and the COVID-19 vaccines, combined with other public health strategies, represent our best opportunity to end this dire pandemic,” said Kevin Brown, President and CEO of Piedmont Healthcare , in a press release. “We are excited to be working with the East Lake Foundation to make the COVID-19 vaccine available to community members who may otherwise have difficulty accessing it. We are grateful to help the East Lake Foundation continue to find another way to improve the health and well-being of the local community. “

The East Lake Foundation was formed in 1995 to transform one of the hardest-hit neighborhoods in Atlanta, a victim of years of divestment and the long-term effects of systemic racism.

The holistic revitalization of the East Lake community under the direction of the Foundation and its partners is a milestone in urban renewal, and the organization’s efforts provide a blueprint to not only break the intergenerational cycle of poverty but also create a place to do so people of all ages and incomes choose to live and prosper.

Piedmont has been a partner in East Lake for several years, with team members volunteering each year at the foundation’s annual Thanksgiving and holiday parties, providing food, donating gift cards, and participating in the Adopt a Family program. Recently, Dr. Jayne Morgan, the clinical director of the COVID-19 task force in Piedmont, joined the foundation to attend an awareness-raising event on COVID-19 vaccinations.

“This is a very difficult time for East Lake residents at risk, many of whom have been disproportionately affected by the COVID-19 pandemic and are in dire financial straits due to this extraordinary health crisis,” said Daniel J. Shoy Jr., the President and CEO the foundation said in the press release. “We are incredibly grateful for our partnership with Piedmont Healthcare and the East Lake Golf Club to host this East Lake Vaccination Clinic to serve our elderly residents and partner organizations who are in dire need of help and often have limited access to it the resources required for vaccination. “
