ROBERT EDMUND DOBYNS JR.
AUGUST 31, 1948-MARCH 10, 2022
Robbie passed away on March 10, 2022, in Santa Fe.
If it were up to him, this would be his obituary- DONE!, loved all my girls
Robbie was born in Pensacola, Florida and became a Santa Fean at the age of 7. Robbie spent his summers as a youth working as a ranch hand for his uncle, whose ranch is now Eldorado. He attended Wood Gormley, Harrington Junior High, Santa Fe High School, UNM, and Boston College, where he sought an advanced degree in philosophy, studying an obscure field, historicism. He was a huge proponent of education.
Robbie loved telling stories of life, college, skiing, travel, his love and deep knowledge of Santa Fe, real estate; his views on the world, and his advocacy for the proletariat. He had a vast knowledge that ranged from history to politics to cars, music, philosophy, historical Santa Fe, and so much more, he knew something about everything. He had a great sense of humor, it was a mix of skepticism and constructive ideas, he was terrifically smart, he had the most incredible smile, eyes, loved his dogs, and had a great big laugh. His cooking was phenomenal and he loved to share with people; we will miss his tortillas and mocha cake the most!
Anyone that crossed his path saw his generosity, kindness, and love of teaching. Robbie served as President of the Santa Fe Association of Realtors (SFAR) and on numerous boards for SFAR and the Real Estate Association of New Mexico. He also taught classes to realtors across the state and country. He loved volunteering on the board of KSFR, the local public radio station, and for Open Hands. He was always helping someone in any way that he could.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Marjorie and Robert Dobyns Sr., many loving aunts and uncles, and his sweet dogs – Lucia and Tucker. He leaves behind 2 brothers, Step (Claire) Dobyns, and Marty Dobyns. And of course, daughters Ayesha Dobyns and Andrea Dobyns; their mom, Gale Dobyns, and granddaughter Gabrielle (Gabby) Dobyns, who he absolutely adored and was able to share so many wonderful years with. He spent much of his free time watching Gabby ice skate, doing gymnastics, teaching her math, politics and philosophy, and taking her to community events.
