Ledes from the Land of Enchantment

ROY MARTINEZ Obituary (1926 – 2022) – Santa Fe, NM

ROY MARTINEZ
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Roy Martinez, age 95. He passed away on July 17, 2022, surrounded by his children. He was born to Roman and Eliza Martinez on November 14, 1926 in El Rancho, NM. He married our mother, Consuelo, on October 9, 1948, and they were blessed with ten children.
It was a daunting task to raise a family of ten children, but together, they did it. Dad had many businesses along the way, finally settling on Roy’s Tree Service and Pest Control. It was successful and led to a construction business called Roy and Sons General Contractors and eventually Ideal Homes. In his final years he started and stayed busy with RoyCon Investments.
A very big part of Dad’s life was with the Crusillo movement. He was deeply involved for many years and it was a fruitful and rewarding spirit filled period of his life.
Dad had a passion for the outdoors and purchased a piece of land in the Pecos Wilderness on the Cowcreek River. As the years passed, Cowcreek became a gathering place for the entire family and many beautiful memories have been made there. What a blessing Cowcreek has been and will continue to be for the entire family.
He loved singing and playing his guitar and viduela. He and our mother were part of the Coro de Jesus Christo choir for many years, as well as the choir at St. Anne’s. They also danced with Los Coloniales, a Spanish dance group here in Santa Fe. Dad was also active in the Santa Fe Fiesta Council for many years.
He leaves behind a very big family and a network of relatives and friends. His time on earth was well lived and we will all miss him very deeply, leaving a void in our lives that will never be filled.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Consuelo, his sons, Charlie and Robbie Martinez, his sons-in-law, Jim Saiz and Caesar Lujan, daughter in-law, Theresa Martinez, granddaughter, Loreen Gallegos.
