LAJOLLA, Calif. — Behind three touchdown passes from Jackson Diehl, La Jolla defeated Santa Fe Christian 28-22 in a San Diego Section Division 2 playoff game on Friday night.
The victory vaulted the Vikings (6-5), the eighth-seed, into quarterfinal play next week vs. top-seed Granite Hills (8-2), which had a first round bye.
Santa Fe Christian, the ninth seed, finished 8-3.
Diehl, a 6-foot-2, 170-pound junior, opened the scoring with a 34-yard touchdown pass to sophomore Hank Hansen to go up 7-0.
It didn’t take long for Diehl to get back at it, rolling to his right and finding junior Nick Sebro with a 54-yard bomb, making it 14-0.
Touchdown runs by Santa Fe Christian’s Andrew Hidy (1-yard) and Kevin Olah (3-yard) cut the Vikings’ lead to 21-14.
But a 3-yard TD run from Justin Skully on a direct snap put La Jolla back in control 28-14.
