Santa Fe High 6, Los Lunas 1

What happened: The Demons were strong against the Lady Tigers in a District 5-5A match in Los Lunas on Saturday, taking a 6-0 lead before Los Lunas responded late in the first half. The second half was uneventful, but Santa Fe High head coach Justin Najaka was impressed with the energy with which his team began to take a commanding lead.

“We all agreed not to come out slowly because we didn’t know what was going to happen on the lawn,” said Najaka. “We slowed down a bit in the second half, but got out quickly.”

Top player: The Demons’ brand record was seen when four players scored a goal. Jazzi Gonzalez scored twice while Asha Smelser and Allison Segura-Maze scored one goal and one assist each.

What’s next: Santa Fe High (11-0 overall, 2-0 in 5-5A) ended the non-district portion of their schedule against Moriarty on Monday.

Academy of Technology and Classics 3, Santa Fe Prep 1

What happened: The Phoenix increased their winning streak to two in a non-district match at Brennand Field. After a goalless first half, ATC took a 1-0 lead through Sofia Barker’s goal. Prep shortened to 2-1 on Isabel Dolan’s goal in the 68th minute, but ATC crowned the goal a minute later. “We were understaffed with a few injured players,” said Prep co-head coach Todd Kurth.

Top player: Barker had two goals.

What’s next: Prep (2-6) plays at the Las Vegas Robertson on Tuesday. ATC (2-4) plays in Taos on Monday.

What happened: This is not a typo; the boys also dominated the Tigers, although this 5-5A competition was held in Santa Fe. The Demons took a 4-1 lead at halftime, but head coach Chris Eadie said his team didn’t play with the same energy or intensity as they did in Wednesday’s 4-0 win over Albuquerque High. As an example, he referred to the 26 shots against the Tigers.

“We weren’t as efficient as we were last in our attack third,” said Eadie.

Top player: Despite double and triple teams, junior striker Alex Wagoner scored two goals and two assists. Henry Mazulis scored two goals while Ivan Lozano scored one goal and one assist.

What’s next: The Demons (10-1, 2-0 in 5-5A) play Albuquerque Manzano on Wednesday in Albuquerque.

What happened: The Blue Griffins were on their heels when the Tigers were in third. But it was only for a moment when Prep responded with five unanswered goals for the rest of the game and took a 4-1 lead at halftime. Prep head coach Hersch Wilson was impressed with the way the Blue Griffins responded to adversity.

“You focused,” said Wilson. “You weren’t upset. They just kept playing. I was impressed with this kind of maturity. “

Top player: Mike Vimont had a hat trick while Yuto Oketani’s two goals accounted for all of Prep’s goals. Asher Nathan assisted on three goals.

What’s next: Prep (4-2-1) goes home to District 2 1A-3A game against Las Vegas Robertson on Tuesday. Taos (2-7) runs the Academy for Technology and the Classics on Monday.
