As the summer starts to wind down for local youngsters, the push is on to finish a major street project downtown.
Road work continues on Santa Fe Street through Wednesday, Aug. 3, including weekends. Santa Fe Street will be closed to thru traffic due to construction from Fifth Street to Seventh Street. Detour signs are in place. The project is scheduled for completion prior to school starting on Thursday, Aug. 4. The street should be paved this week, according to the City of Riverbank’s Development Services Administration Manager, Kathleen Cleek. Contractor George Reed had an issue with a PG&E transmission line that was determined to be shallower than what PG&E had noted during the design. The conflict was resolved and the road work has progressed and is slated to be completed before school starts, as the work is being done on the street in front of Cardozo Middle School.
“The only portion of the project that might not be completed in time is the actual thermoplastic striping,” added Cleek. “The new pavement needs to cure for at least a week and depending on when George Reed paves this week, the permanent striping will be going down after school begins. If this is the case, we will have some temporary striping in place. Included with this project are eight new ADA ramps and new curb, gutter and sidewalk in front of the school.”
Also, on Thursday, July 28 from 7 am to 3:30 pm, California Street will be closed to thru traffic between Terminal Avenue and Eighth Street. Detours will be in effect.
